First-aid measures

1 Description of first aid measures :

General advice :  First aider needs to protect himself. Place affected clothing in a sealed bag for subsequent decontamination.

Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.

If inhaled : Move to fresh air. Keep at rest. Consult a physician if necessary.

Skin contact : take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash off with soap and water.

Eye contact : rinse  with running water, whilst keeping the eye wide open  (at least 15 minutes).

Ingestion : if swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse mouth with water.

Fire-fighting measures

1 Extinguishing media :

Suitable extinguishing media : in case of fire, use water/foam for extinction. Collect contaminated fire extinguisheing water separately. This must not be  discharged into drains.

Unsuitable extinguishing media : none. Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surroundong environement.

2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture :

Specific hazards during firefighting : not combustible. For more information refer to section "Stability & Reactivity".

3 Advice for firefighters :

Special protective equipment for firefighters : gloves. In case of respirable dust and/or fumes, use self-contained breathing apparatus and dust impervious protective suit.

Accidental release measures

1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures :

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures : Respirator with a particle filter (EN 143). Wear suitable gloves (and safety glasses.

2 Environmental precautions :

Environmental precautions : Ecological injuries are not known or expected under normal use. Do not allow uncontrolled discharge of product into the environment.

3 Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up :

Recovery : keep in properly labelled containers.

Decontamination/cleaning :Wash off with plenty of water.

Handling and storage

Handling

Advice on safe handling and usage: provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms. Dust must be extracted directly at the point of origin. Routine housekeeping should be instituted to ensure that dusts do not accumulate on surfaces.

Technical Measures for storage: keep in properly labelled containers.

Storage conditions

Recommended: stable under normal conditions. To guarantee the quality and properties of the product, keep container tightly closed and dry.

Incompatible products: acids, hydrogen peroxide.

Packaging measures: store in original container

Packaging material recommended: plastic materials (polyethylene)

Packaging material  to be avoided: none known

Other data: stable under recommended storage conditions.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Contains no substance with occupational exposure limit values

DNEL for dineodymium tricarbonate

Workers : skin contact : long-term exposure systemic effects : 0,75 mg/kg bw/day

Workers : inhalation     : long-term exposure systemic effects : 2,6 mg/m3

No PNEC derivation for  dineodymium tricarbonate as no adverse effect was observed (qualitative approach)

Control measures: engineering measures: apply technical measures to comply with the occupational exposure limits. Effective exhaust ventilation system.

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection: use a respirator with an approved filter if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. Respirator with a particle filter (EN 143).

Hand protection: for prolonged or repeated contact use protective gloves.

Eye protection: safety glasses

Skin and body protection: protective suit

Hygiene measures: handdle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of the workday.

Protective measures: this protective equipment must be selected in accordance with the current CEN standards and in cooperation with the supplier of the protective equipment. Selection of apprpriate personal protective equipment should be based on the evaluation of the performance characteristics of the protective equipment relative to the task(s) to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the potential hazards and/or risks that may occur during the use.

General advice: ecological injuries are not known or expected under normal use. Do not allow uncontrolled discharge of product into the environment.

Stability and reactivity

Chemical stability: stable under normal conditions

Hazardous reactions:

Conditions to avoid: no dangerous reaction known under conditions of normal use.

Materials to avoid: acids

Decomposition product(s):

Thermal decomposition can lead to release of irritating gases and vapours (carbon oxides: CO + CO2).

On contact with acid releases: (carbon oxides: CO + CO2).

Disposal considerations

Product disposal:

Advice on disposal: dispose of in accordance with local regulations.

Advice on cleaning and disposal packaging:

Advice: clean with cold water

Other data: dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
