First-aid measures

INHALATION

If inhaled, remove patient from exposure, keep warm and rest. OBTAIN IMMIDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION!

SKIN CONTACT

After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing. OBTAIN IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION!

EYE CONTACT

Immediately irrigate with eyewash solution or clean water, holding the eyelids apart for at least 15 minutes. Continue irrigation until medical attention can be obtained. OBTAIN IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION!

INGESTION

Wash out mouth with water and give some glasses of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. OBTAIN IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION!

MOST IMPORTANT SYMPTOMS AND EFFECTS, BOTH ACUTE AND DELAYED

Inhalation causes irritation and can cause burns. Overexposure can lead to pulmonary edema. Ingestion can cause burns in esophagus and stomach. The substance has shown to cause skin allergy in animal studies. It has also shown to harm heart and brain after long term and repeated exposure (ingestion).

Mutagenic tests (in vivo) have been performed and the outcome was negative, ie. the substance is not genotoxic (considered not to harm the genetic material).

INDICATION OF ANY IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION AND SPECIAL TREATMENT NEEDED

Symptomatic treatment and supportive therapy as indicated.

Fire-fighting measures

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA

• Suitable extinguishing media:

Use water spray, foam, dry powder or carbon dioxide as appropriate for surrounding fire and materials.

• Unsuitable extinguishing media:

No limitations given for this substance.

SPECIAL HAZARDS ARISING FROM THE SUBSTANCE OR MIXTURE

Combustible, but not flammable. In case of fire toxic fumes of carbon oxides (COx), nitric oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides and hydrochloride (HCl) may be formed.

No explosiveness or flammability data identified. High concentrations of finely divided airborne organic particles can potentially explode if ignited.

ADVICE FOR FIREFIGHTERS

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes. Prevent fire-extinguishing water from contaminating the watercourses.

Accidental release measures

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS, PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

If product is released or spilled, take proper precautions to minimize exposure by using appropriate personal protective equipment (see Section Exposure controls / personal protection).

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS

Use inert absorption medium (e.g. Absol, Vermiculite, dry sand) and leave for destruction. Area should be adequately ventilated and flushed with water after all material has been removed.

METHODS AND MATERIAL FOR CONTAINMENT AND CLEANING UP

A small spill may be handled with water moistened disposable cloth and placed in container for chemical waste. A larger spill should be collected as described above. Use recommended personal protective equipment. Wash spill area with water after completed pick up.

Handling and storage

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING

Keep in closed containers. Very acute toxic for water environment with long term effects. Bioaccumulative and not easily degradable.

CONDITIONS FOR SAFE STORAGE, INCLUDING ANY INCOMPATIBILITIES

Store at ambient conditions, generally 15 to 25°C, and keep the container tightly closed.

Exposure controls / personal protection

CONTROL PARAMETERS

To the best of our knowledge, established occupational exposure limit value is not available.

Recommended occupational exposure limit value:

0.1 -1 mg/m3       LTEL 8h

EXPOSURE CONTROL

Appropriate engineering controls:

Use appropriate controls (e.g. containment, local exhaust ventilation) as specified in a workplace risk assessment. Technical measures and appropriate operations should be given priority over the use of personal protective equipment. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Personal protective equipment:

- Eye/face protection: Wear full face shield with filtered air. Lab work should be done in fume hood, wearing safety classes. An emergency eye wash station should be available.

- Skin protection: Handle with disposable gloves. The selected gloves must comply with the specifications in EC Directive 89/686/EEC and the related standard EN374 or applicable federal, state and national legislation.

- Protective clothing: Use impervious, disposable clothing to prevent skin contact. The type should be selected according to concentrations, quantities and duration of handling at the specific workplace.

- Respiratory protection: Required when dusts are generated. Where risk assessment shows that an air-purifying respirator is appropriate, use filter of type P3 (EN 143) or N100 (NIOSH) or types recommended in applicable federal, state and national legislation.

- Environmental exposure controls: Avoid release to the environment and operate within closed systems.

Stability and reactivity

REACTIVITY

No known reactivity hazards under normal conditions.

CHEMICAL STABILITY

The substance is chemically stable at standard room temperature conditions, generally 15 to 25°C.

POSSIBILITY OF HAZARDOUS REACTIONS AND CONDITIONS TO AVOID

Not expected to occur.

INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS

Strong oxidants; strong acids or bases.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS

Carbon oxides (COx), nitric oxides (NOx), sulfur oxide and hydrogenchloride (HCl) may be formed.

Disposal considerations

WASTE TREATMENT METHODS

Dispose waste at authorized plant, in accordance with Directive 2008/98/EC and/or applicable federal, state, national or local legislation.

INFORMATION ON RECYCLING AND METHODS OF DISPOSAL FOR INDUSTRY

Avoid dust generation and inhalation of dust. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and other mucous membranes. Wear all recommended personal protective equipment. Wash thoroughly after handling. Dispose waste at authorized plant, in accordance with applicable national, federal, state or local legislation. Disposal should be sent for external waste handling company for incineration. Do not empty into drains or watercourses.

INFORMATION ON RECYCLING AND METHODS OF DISPOSAL FOR THE PUBLIC

This substance is not for public use. It is a transported isolated intermediate, further converted to the final product by the downstream user, and therefore this entry is not applicable.
