Preliminary Test

The DSC-curve of the preliminary test (heating rate of 20 °C/min from 25 °C to 400 °C) is shown in the attached Figure 1. An endothermic heat effect was observed starting at 57.3 °C and an exothermic heat effect was observed starting at 332.5 °C. After the experiment, the sample had lost about 29.7% of its mass and the sample was black and powdery.

Main Test

A further DSC-run was recorded between 25 °C and 400 °C with a heating rate of 10 °C/min. The DSC curve of the main test is given in the attached Figure 2. During this run, the endothermic heat effect started at 59.0 °C and the exothermic heat effect started at 323.3 °C. After the measurement, the test item lost about 30.8% of its mass and a black powder remained in the sample cup, indicating that the test item decomposed before melting occurred. The endothermic heat effect might be the result of emitting water or other volatile components.
