Executive summary:

The determination of the surface tension of an aqueous solution of test substance was based on the OECD Guideline No. 115: “Surface Tension of Aqueous Solutions” (1995) and on the EEC Directive 92/69, EEC Publication No. L383, December 1992 and the Council Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, 30 May 2008, Part A, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties, A.5 “Surface tension”. The determination of the surface tension was accomplished by means of a tensiometer, using the ring method under GLP. The force which was required to withdraw a horizontally suspended ring from the surface of the solution is measured. The calibration factor Φb was determined to be 1.0371 for double distilled water. The mean and the corrected value for the given solution were calculated. The surface tension of test substance in water (at a concentration of 0.1%) was determined to be 66.7 mN/m at 19.8 °C. Based on the criteria as outlined in the EEC Guideline and the results of this study, test substance has to be considered as a not surface active substance.
