Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The reaction product constituent linear alkylbenzene sulfonate is readily absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract and rapidly metabolized and excreted with its metabolites primarily in the urine but also in the bile and feces. The substance does not bioaccumulate in the tissues.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Bioaccumulation potential:
no bioaccumulation potential

Additional information

There are two published studies for linear alkybenzene sulfonate. In th first study, the absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of LAS (radioactively labeled with 35S) were studied in male Charles River rats. LAS was readily absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract and rapidly metabolized and excreted in the urine. In the second study, the disposition of radioactivity was studied in single and repeated oral or subcutaneous doses of [14C]LAS to rhesus monkeys. Results show that LAS is rapidly absorbed, then rapidly metabolized and excreted, primarily in the urine but also in the bile and feces. No accumulation or localization of radioactivity or change in elimination was observed. LAS does not bioaccumulate in tissues.
