Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The melting point of Nickel oxyhydroxide is expected to be > 200°C and decomposition is predicted. The data are read-across form data derived from a study characterizing the melting point of Ni dihydroxide. Ni dihydroxide is reported to decompose before melting at temperature > 200°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are no data available on the melting point of Ni oxyhydroxide.

In a study characterizing the melting point of Ni dihydroxide a decomposition from approximately 200°C was observed (Harlan Labs, 2010). Column 2 of REACH Annex VII states that the study on the determination of the melting point does not need to be conducted if the substance decomposes before boiling. Accordingly, a complete study was not conducted as prelimary work concluded that Ni dihydroxide decomposes before changing states. The data reported for Ni dihydroxide are used for read-across to Ni oxyhydroxide and decomposition is predicted.
