Effect concentration:
100 mg/L

Additional information

In the Clariant study of 2002 Direct Red 23 (DR23) was tested on freshwater fish at the limit dose of 100 mg/L. At this concentration no adverse effects were observed, so an LC50 value >100 mg/L was derived.

The conclusion that DR23 is not toxic to fish is confirmed by the supporting studies of Little at al. (1974 and 1972, respectively), as well as the study on the structural analogue Direct Red 239 (Kemira 1989).
