A study was conducted to determine the biodegradability potential of the regsistered substance in water, in accordance with OECD Testing Guideline 301D. Under the test conditions the percentage biodegradation of EMI-DBS reached a mean of 32.1% after 28 days based on the measured COD of the test item. Therefore the test item can be considered to be not ready biodegradable. Based on biodegradation being recorded as > 20% the study provides evidence of the test substance being inherently biodegradable (as per ECHA's Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b: Endpoint specific guidance, section R.7.9.4.1 Laboratory data on degradation/biodegradation).

The adsorption/desorption of the substance was determined in accordance with the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals 106. The study showed that the adsorption rate in ASA-5a, ASA-7 and ASA-8 were 74.38%, 74.38% and 63.09%, respectively. It was considered that the test substance is off medium adsorption. The organic carbon adsorption coefficient Koc of the test substance in ASA-5a, ASA-7 and ASA-8 was 2707, 701 and 455, respectively. The log Koc was 3.43, 2.85 and 2.66, respectively. It was found that the desorption rate in ASA-5a, ASA-7 and ASA-8 was 0%, 9.05% and 29.35%, respectively. It was considered that the substance showed weak desorption in ASA-5a and ASA-7, and medium desorption in ASA-8. It was found that the mass balance rate in ASA-5a, ASA-7 and ASA-8 was 90.29%, 81.17% and 95.64%, respectively.
