The read across from 1-hexanol (Sharp 1978;) suggests that 2-methyl-1-heptanol would not be sensitising. In addition, a reliability 4 supporting study in human was available which found the linear isomer, 1-octanol not to be a sensitiser in man.

No high reliability studies for skin sensitisation of 2-methyl-1-heptanol were available. The result was therefore read across from 1-hexanol, due to the similarity of the substances.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on read across from the structurally similar substance 1-hexanol, it is concluded here that 2-methyl-1-heptanol does not require classification for skin sensitisation.
