Put on appropriate personal protective equipment.

Environmental precautions :
Avoid dispersal of spilled material and runoff and contact with soil, waterways, drains and sewers. Inform the relevant authorities the product has caused environmental pollution (sewers, waterways, soil or air).

Methods and materials for containment and clean-up

Small spill : Stop leak if without risk. Move containers from spill area. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Large spill : Stop leak if without risk. Move containers from spill area. Prevent entry into sewers, water courses, basements or confined areas. Contain and collect spillage with non-combustible, absorbent material e.g. sand, earth, vermiculite or diatomaceous earth and place in container for disposal according to local regulations. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor. Contaminated absorbent material may pose the same hazard as the spilt product.

Handling and storage

This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Processor/User of the Registrant’s intermediate.

Precautions for safe handling :
Do not smoke. Remove sources of ignition. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Handle material in adequately ventilated areas. Ensure proper use of recommended safety apparel. Do not use compressed air or compressed oxygen for transfer of product. Partially used drums must be securely closed after use.
Apply earthing and bonding to prevent static discharges. Storage and transfer containers must be bonded and earthed. Reacts violently with water liberating highly flammable gases. Spontaneously flammable in air.

Conditions for safe storage:
Keep under Nitrogen. Store in a cool, dry and ventilated area. Ensure material is kept in a closed container. Keep away from ignition sources. Protect from moisture and air (<10ppm Oxygen)

Specific end use (s):

Product transfer : Electrostatic discharges may be generated during pumping. Ensure electrical continuity by proper bonding and grounding (earthing). Do not use compressed air or compressed oxygen for transfer of product. If positive displacement pumps are used, these must be fitted with non-integral pressure relief valve.

Exposure controls / personal protection

This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Processor/User of the Registrant’s intermediate.

EXPOSURE LIMITS :

Components with limit values that require monitoring at the workplace:

Aluminium Alkyls :
NOISH (America) (8hr TWA) 2mg/m3
SAIOH (South Africa) Occupational Exposure Limit – recommended limit (8hr TWA) 2mg/m3
FIOSH (Germany) BAT 200ppm

Exposure Controls

Risk management measures : Occupational exposure controls-Technical measures : Use only with adequate ventilation. Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to keep worker exposure to airborne contaminants below any recommended or statutory limits. The engineering controls also need to keep gas, vapour or dust concentrations below any lower explosive limits.

Personal protection measures :

- Inhalation : Approved filter (A/p2) Respirator recommended.
- Skin Contact : PVC/rubber gloves (impervious) and impervious clothing
- Eye Contact : Full-face shield preferred over goggles

General Hygiene and Protective measures: Keep away from food. Wash hands thoroughly with water and soap before breaks and at the end of a workday. Provide separate storage of work clothes and private clothes.

Environmental exposure controls:

Technical measure : Emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure they comply with the requirements of environmental protection legislation. In some cases, fume scrubbers, filters or engineering modifications to the process equipment may be necessary to reduce emissions to acceptable levels.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity : Risk of violent reaction

Chemical stability : The product is stable if stored and applied as directed

Possibility of hazardous reactions : Under normal conditions of storage and use, hazardous reactions will not occur if stored and applied as directed.

Conditions to avoid:
Avoid all possible sources of ignition (spark or flame).
Avoid exposure to moisture. Reacts violently with water.
Avoid exposure to air
Avoid release to the environment.

Incompatible materials : Water

Hazardous decomposition products : Metal oxides and carbon oxides.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Product :

Methods of disposal: Examine possibilities for re-utilisation. Product residues and un-cleaned empty containers should be packaged, sealed, labelled, and disposed of or recycled according to relevant national and local regulations. Where large quantities are concerned, consult the supplier. When un-cleaned empty containers are passed on, the recipient must be warned of any possible hazard that may be caused by residues. For disposal within the EC, the appropriate code according to the European Waste List (EWL) should be used. It is among the tasks of the polluter to assign the waste to waste codes specific to industrial sectors and processes according to the European Waste List (EWL).

Recommendation: Dilute with petroleum or diesel oil to a maximum of 10% solution and burn in a permitted hazardous waste incinerator.

Packaging :

Methods of disposal : The generation of waste should be avoided or minimised wherever possible. Waste packaging should be recycled. Incineration or landfill should only be considered when recycling is not feasible.

Special Precautions: This material and its container must be disposed of in a safe way. Care should be taken when handling emptied containers that have not been cleaned or rinsed out. Empty containers or liners may retain some product residues. Vapour from product residues may create a highly flammable or explosive atmosphere inside the container. Do not cut, weld or grind used containers unless they have been cleaned thoroughly internally. Avoid dispersal of spilt material and runoff and contact with soil, waterways, drains and sewers.

Recommendation: Rinse and dry with inert hydrocarbon. Dispose of washing solution the same way as product. Empty containers may contain some remaining product. Hazard warning labels are a guide to the safe handling of empty packaging and should not be removed. Empty containers represent a fire hazard as they may contain flammable product residues and vapour. Never weld, solder or braze empty containers.

Materials contaminated with product should be treated as highly flammable.
