First-aid measures

DESCRIPTION OF FIRST AID MEASURES
Inhalation: Supply fresh air and call for doctor.
Skin contact: Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash contaminated clothing before use.
Eye contact: Rinse immediately with soft water for at least 15 minutes. Hold eyelids open and remove possible contacts. Seek medical help and continue rinsing during transport.
Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water. Drink a few glasses of water or milk. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Do not induce vomitng. Consult a physician.

MOST IMPORTANT SYMPTOMS AND EFFECTS, BOTH ACUTE AND DELAYED
Burning and irritation of the eyes, skin and respiratory tract.

INDICATION OF ANY IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION AND SPECIAL TREATMENT NEEDED
Treat symptoms and injuries systematically.

Fire-fighting measures

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA
Suitable extinguishing media: Powder
Unsitable Extinguishing Media: Water or foam if there is a risk of contact with the product.

SPECIAL HAZARDS ARISING FROM THE SUBSTANCE OR MIXTURE
Heated product or contact with water may cause strong reaction and emit toxic and corrosive fumes. Titanium tetrachloride decomposes in water to titanium dioxide and hydrochloric acid.

ADVICE FOR FIREFIGHTERS
Cool exposed containers with water spray if there is no risk of contact with product. Move container if this can be done safely. Prevent extinguishing media to reach drains or waterways since this could be contaminated. Use self-sustained breathing mask. Protective suit.

Accidental release measures

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS, PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND EMERGENY PROCEDURES
Alarm and evacuate. Avoid direct contact with product. Provide sufficient ventilation. Use personal protective equipment. Remove all ignition sources.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS
Avoid release to the environment, sewers or water ways.

METHODS AND MATERIAL FOR CONTAINMENT AND CLEANING UP
Use explosion-proof equipment and spark-free tools. Sweep or vacuum spilled material. Avoid dust formation. Cover any drains. Place in a suitable container that is tightly closed and marked and dispose as waste.

Handling and storage

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING
Apply occupational hygiene principles and avoid direct contact with product. Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling chemicals. Provide sufficient ventilation. Avoid formation of dust. Use explosion-proof equipment and spark-free tools.

CONDITIONS FOR SAFE STORAGE, INCLUDING ANY INCOMPATIBILITIES
Store as flammable product. Store in original containers, tightly closed in a cool and dry place. Protect from heat and direct sunlight. Ground/bond cointainer and receiving equipment. Avoid contact with air/oxygen. Take precautions against electrostatic build-up. Keep separated from incompatible material and substances.

Stability and reactivity

REACTIVITY
Titanium tetrachloride: May react violently with water.

POSSIBILITY OF HAZARDOUS REACTIONS
Titanium tetrachloride: May attack metals in the presence of water or moisture and emit flammable hydrogen gas causing risk of fire and explosion.

CHEMICAL STABILITY
Stable if used and stored as recommended.

CONDITIOINS TO AVOID
Heat, sunlight, ignition sources, moisture.

INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS

Disposal considerations

WASTE TREATMENT METHODS
Discarded product, including packaging, is considered hazardous waste according to directive 2008/98/EC. Dispose of contents/container to an approved waste disposal plant in accordance with applicable regional, national, and local laws and regulations. Local regulations may be more strict than regional or national requirements and must be complied with.

Empty, well cleaned containers can be recycled.

Waste code shall be selected with regards to the source generating the waste according to valid Waste Regulation.

Example of waste codes/waste designations in accordance with EWC:
Waste type (waste product): EWC 160303* inorganic wastes containing dangerous substances
Waste (packaging): EWC 150110* packaging containing residues of or contaminated by dangerous substances.
