First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures
General information:
Remove contaminated clothes at once. Where there is a risk of unconsciousness place and transport on one side in a stable
position. Observe self-protection for first aid.
After contact with the eyes:
Rinse immediately with plenty of water for 10-15 minutes and seek medical advice. Keep eyelids well open to rinse the whole eye
surface and eyelids with water. Continue to bathe eyes during transport to medical practitioner.
After contact with the skin:
Wash with plenty of water or soap and water; immediately remove all contaminated clothing. Seek medical advice and clearly
identify substance.
After inhalation:
Move to fresh air, keep the victim laying down and restful. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Seek medical advice
and clearly identify substance.
After swallowing:
If conscious, give several small portions of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice immediately and produce
the label or packaging. Never give an unconscious person anything by mouth!
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
Any relevant information can be found in other parts of this section.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Further toxicology information must be observed.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media:
extinguishing powder , sand , carbon dioxide .
Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:
water .
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Hazardous combustion products: hydrogen chloride , chlorine , nitrogen oxides and Phosphorus oxide .
Advice for firefighters
Special protective equipment for fire fighting:
Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Wear personal protection equipment. Task force: Use tightly fitting chemical protection suit. Take persons to a safe place.
Keep unprotected persons away. Avoid inhaling mists and vapours. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do
not walk through spilled material.
Environmental precautions
Close leak if possible without risk. Prevent material from entering sewers or surface waters. Contain any fluid that runs out using
suitable material (e.g. earth). Condense gasses/vapours/mists using a directed spray of water. Retain contaminated
water/extinguishing water. Dispose of in prescribed marked containers.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Do not flush away with water. Absorb with liquid, mainly acid binding material and dispose of according to local/state/federal
regulation. Contain larger amounts and pump up into suitable containers. Exhaust vapours.
Further information:
Eliminate all sources of ignition.
Reference to other sections
Relevant information in other sections has to be considered. This applies in particular for information given on personal protective
equipment and on disposal.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling
Precautions for safe handling:
Keep away from incompatible substances. Ensure adequate ventilation. Must be syphoned off in
situ.
Precautions against fire and explosion:
Keep away from sources of ignition and do not smoke. Keep away from open flames, heat and sparks.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Conditions for storage rooms and vessels:
Do not store in containers made of aluminum or other light metals. Do not store in containers coated with zinc.
Advice for storage of incompatible materials:
Keep away from alkalis. Do not store together with combustible substances.
Further information for storage:
Keep container dry and tightly closed. Keep in the original container in a cool well ventilated place. Protect against moisture.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters
Maximum airborne concentrations at the workplace:
CAS No. Material Type m g/m3 ppm
7647-01-0 Hydrogen chloride AGW 3,0 2,0
7647-01-0 Hydrogen chloride EU 8,0 5,0
10025-87-3 Phosphorus oxychloride AGW 0,13 0,02
Hydrogen chloride (CAS-Nr. 7647-01-0): Refer to Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances "TRGS 900" for more details on the
German AGW.
hydrogen chloride (CAS no. 7647-01-1): the short-time exposure value of the EU threshold is 15 mg/m3 (= 10 ppm).

Exposure controls
Exposure in the work place limited and controlled
General protection and hygiene measures:
Avoid exposure - obtain special instructions before use. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not breathe vapours. Do not eat,
drink or smoke when handling.
Personal protection equipment:
Respiratory protection
gas mask filter ABEK .
Eye protection
tight fitting protective goggles . Provide work station with eye bathing equipment.
Hand protection
PVC gloves .
Skin protection
acid-proof protective clothing . Where there is risk of splashing: complete head, face and neck protection .
Exposure to the environment limited and controlled
Prevent material from entering surface waters, drains or sewers and soil.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity; Chemical stability; Possibility of hazardous reactions
No decomposition if used in accordance with instructions.
Relevant information can possibly be found in other parts of this section.
Conditions to avoid
moisture
Incompatible materials
Reacts violently with: water , alcohols , basic substances (e.g. alkalis, ammonia, amines) and acids , proton-active substances ,
acetone , dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) and dimethyl formamide (DMF) . Reaction causes the formation of: hydrogen chloride and
heat . The temperature may increase up to 300 °C. Contact with combustible material may cause fire.
Hazardous decomposition products
hydrogen chloride .

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods
Material
Recommendation:
Dispose of according to regulations by incineration in a special waste incinerator. Observe local/state/federal regulations.
Uncleaned packaging
Recommendation:
Completely discharge containers (no tear drops, no powder rest, scraped carefully). Containers may be recycled or re-used.
Observe local/state/federal regulations. Uncleaned packaging should be treated with the same precautions as the material.
Waste Disposal Legislation Ref.No.(EC)
It is not possible to determine a waste code for this product in accordance with the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) since it is
only possible to classify it according to how it is used by the customer. The waste code is to be determined within the EU in liaison
with the waste-disposal operator.
