First-aid measures

General:

Get medical advice as quickly as possible in the case of a serious or lasting dysfunction.

Inhalation:

Bring the person into the fresh air, rest and consult a doctor

Skin contact:

Remove contaminated clothing, wash immediately with water and soap

Eye contact:

Rinse for 15 minutes with water, consult an ophthalmologist

Ingestion:

Rinse mouth (spit out!), and consult a doctor if necessary

MOST IMPORTANT SYMPTOMS AND EFFECTS, BOTH ACUTE AND DELAYED:

Fine powders and/or soluble compounds of As, Pb … have hazardous properties with delayed effects following inhalation and oral intake.

INDICATION OF ANY IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION AND SPECIAL TREATMENT NEEDED:

Treat symptomatically and consider small amount of As, Pb... The effects might be delayed.

Fire-fighting measures

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA:

      Suitable extinguishing media:

Material is non-flammable. Use firefighting measures appropriate to surrounding materials.

Extinguishing media which may be used where molten metal is present: sand, graphite, dolomite, sodium chlorite

Extinguishers that must not be used for safety reasons:

Do not use water or halogenated extinguishing media.

SPECIAL HAZARDS ARISING FROM THE SUBSTANCE OR MIXTURE:

      Respirable dust.

ADVICE FOR FIRE FIGHTERS:

Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing and gloves must be worn in case of fire. Dispose of fire debris and contaminated firefighting media in accordance with official regulations.

Accidental release measures

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS, PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Avoid inhalation of the dust and/or fumes. Wear suitable clothing, breathing protection (P3 filter) and face protection.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS

Take action to prevent the substance from ending up in drainage pipes, surface water and the soil.

METHODS AND MATERIAL FOR CONTAINMENT AND CLEANING UP

      Material for containment:

             No data

      Methods for cleaning up:

             Ventilate the area thoroughly.

Restrict the area to those persons wearing respiratory protection. Do not allow unprotected people into the area until clean-up has been completed.

Allow spilled material to solidify and scrape up with shovels into a suitable container for recycle or disposal as hazardous waste.

Collect dust, particulates, powders using a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter. Place in a suitable container for recycling or disposal as hazardous waste

DO NOT empty into drains or waterways.

REFERENCE TO OTHER SECTIONS

For further information related to subsection 6.1 see Section 8 “Exposure controls/personal protection” and Section 13 “Disposal considerations”.

Handling and storage

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING

      Safe handling:

Avoid swallowing or inhaling the dust or smoke. Avoid activities that create dust or smoke. Provide good ventilation to keep the concentration in the air below the limits.

CONDITIONS FOR SAFE STORAGE, INCLUDING ANY INCOMPATIBILITIES

Store away from incompatible materials. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, avoiding contact with heat and strong acids.

SPECIFIC END USE(S)

Intermediate use in metal refining and manufacturing.

Exposure controls / personal protection

CONTROL PARAMETERS

Occupational exposure limit values: Current OELs in Belgium

             Tin 2 mg/m3 Lead 0.15 mg/m3 Zinc 5 mg/m3 Antimony 0,5 mg/m3 Arsenic 0.05 mg/m3 (0.16 short term)

      Other limit values: Critical DNEL’s

In accordance with Article 10 of the REACH regulation (1907/2006/EC), a joint CSA was performed on the UVCB substance, upon requ              est the DNEL’s are available on the constituents.

Other limit values: Critical Environmental limits PNEC

In accordance with Article 10 of the REACH regulation (1907/2006/EC), a joint CSA was performed on the UVCB substance, upon requ              est the PNEC’s are available on the constituents.

EXPOSURE CONTROLS

Technical protection measures:

Local exhaust ventilation with enclosure and general ventilation are required in case of emission of dust/aerosol in air. Suction nozzles of local ventilation should be located at or below work level. Air outtakes of general ventilation should be              located at the top of the room and air intakes should be located at the bottom of the room.

Personal Protection:

Avoid direct contact with the material. If the concentration level is determined and known, select appropriate personal protection measures taking into account the concentration at the given workplace, exposure length and works performed by the              given employee as well as the instructions provided by the producer of the personal protection equipment.

Eye/face protection:

      Protective goggles (EN 166).

Skin protection:

Protective clothing (EN 347, EN 340).

Body /hand protection:

Work gloves against dust (EN 388).

Respiratory protection:

With dust or fume formation: P3-mask (EN 149).

Personal hygiene:

Wash hands thoroughly after work to prevent oral ingestion. Do not eat, drink or smoke in the workplace.

Environmental exposure controls:

Take action to prevent the substance from getting into drainage pipes, surface water and the soil.
