Description of key information

Bioaccumulation is not applicable to the target compound itself but to single PAHs, i.e. benzo[a]pyrene (BaP). 

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (terrestrial species):
16 000 L/kg ww

Additional information

The BCF in soil (= 16000) relates to benzo[a]pyrene. According to the Technical Guidance Document (EC 2003, part II), the bioconcentration in earthworm can be described as a hydrophobic partitioning between the pore-water and the phases inside the organism. This equilibrium partitioning approach can be modelled according to the following equation as described by Jager (1998):

BCFearthworm = (0.84 + 0.012Pow )/ROHearthworm

where for ROHearthworm by default a value of 1 (kgwwt/L) can be assumed.
