Description of key information

According to Annex XI of Regulation 1907/2006, testing for a specific endpoint may be omitted if testing does not appear to be scientifically necessary or if it is technically not possible to conduct the study as a consequence of the properties of the substance. Under REACH (ECHA 2008, Chapter R.7B – Endpoint Specific Guidance), the term ‘Hydrolysis’ refers to the “Decomposition or degradation of a chemical by reaction with water”, and this as a function of pH (i.e., abiotic degradation). In the case of NMC, the chemical safety assessment is based on elemental metal concentrations. For indicative behaviour of the UVCB in water - see IUCLID section 4.8 or CSR Section 1.3. Also, in accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, it is considered that the hydrolysis study listed under standard information requirement 9.2.2.1. does not need to be conducted as the substance consists of inorganic atoms with no covalent chemical bonds to be broken by the action of water. It is not subject to ready biodegradability testing and hence hydrolysis testing is also exempted on this basis. The transformation/dissolution data give an acceptable indication of behaviour.
