Environmental fate and pathways:

The registered substance is readily biodegradable (80-81% biodegradation after 28 days, within the 10-d window in the OECD 301F key study) and therefore is not persistent in the environment. However, with a log Kow value determined experimentally at 5.52, the registered substance is considered to be bioaccumulative according to CLP (> 4.0) and potentially B/vB according to the PBT criteria (> 4.5).

Aquatic toxicity:

According to the tonnage band of the registered substance, only acute studies on aquatic invertebrates and algae are required.

For the aquatic invertebrates, a waiving is proposed for the acute study because a chronic study is available on the registered substance. This chronic study was performed according to OECD Guideline 211 with GLP statement. The lowest 21d-EC10 value, based on intrinsic rate of population increase, was determined at 0.121 mg/L, based on time weighted mean measured concentrations.

For the algae, a study was performed on the registered substance according to the OECD guideline 201 with GLP statement. The 72h-ErC50 value was above 0.715 mg/L, the highest attainable test substance concentration in the test conditions, and the 72h-ErC10 value was 0.596 mg/L, based on geometric mean measured concentrations.

Conclusion on classification

No existing harmonised classification.

According to data available, no acute toxicity is recorded at levels up the water solubility limit in ecotoxicological medium and the lowest EC10 value is equal to 0.121 mg/L on Daphnia magna. The substance is readily biodegradable with a log Kow at 5.52.

Classification according to the Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP): The registered substance is classified as Chronic category 3 (H412) for the environment.
