Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

There only limited information available for the assessment of the skin sensitization potential of Ethynyl cyclopropane.

Skin sensitization

The substance Ethynyl cyclopropane was tested for its sensitizing effect on the skin of the guinea pig in the Maximization Test based on the EU method B.6 (skin sensitization), but unfortunately the whole study report is currently not available..

Ten animals in the test group and five animals in the test group were used. The induction phase was carried out with a 10 % dilution of the test material, both for intradermal and epicutaneous rout of induction. Slight signs of irritation and slight necrosis were observed after intradermal induction and slight erythema was observed after the epicutaneous induction procedure. After the challenge application, no cutaneous reactions were observed in the animals of the control group (0/5) at the 24-hour and the 48 hour reading as well as in the test group (0/10) for both readings at 24 and 48 h after the challenge. Further effects in response to the treatment procedure were not noted. Therefore, a sensitizing effect to the test article was not induced under the respective conditions of the test

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the test result of the Guinea Pig Maximization Test and applying the criteria of Annex VI/II D of the Council Directive of July 29, 1983 for the 5th Amendment of the Directive 67/548 EEC (= 83/467 EEC)) for test evaluation, the test substance does not fulfill the criteria of being a skin sensitizer and therefore need not to be classified according to EU or GHS criteria. There is no indication given that Ethynyl cyclopropane is a sensitizer of the respiratory tract.
