Description of key information

Desmodesmus subspicatus was exposed under static conditions for 72 h to one concentration (1 mg/l) of Mecoprop-P n-octyl ester. No toxic effect was observed at the limit of water solubility under exposure conditions.
For Mecoprop-P acid (MCPP-P acid), the hydrolysis product of Mecoprop-P n-octyl ester, a 72h-EC50 of 23.9 mg/L and a 72h-NOEC of 5.96 mg/L were determined on the alga Anabaena flos-aquae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
23.9 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
5.96 mg/L

Additional information

Mecoprop-P n-octyl ester hydrolyses rapidly in natural water. Therefore, the hydrolysis product Mecoprop-P acid (MCPP-P acid) was used for further assessment of Mecoprop-P n-octyl ester with respect to toxicity on alga related to growth rate.
