Description of key information

Ready biodegradability:
Within 28 days, a degradation of 0 % was determined for the substance. The study was conducted in accordance with the Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, Method C.4-D “Manometric Respirometry Test“ (2008).
The substance is considered to be not readily biodegradable (Currenta, 2009a).
Inherent biodegradability:
Within 27 days, a degradation of 11 % was determined for the substance. The study was conducted in accordance with the OECD Guideline 302C "Inherent Biodegradability: Modified MITI Test (II)" (1981).
The substance is considered to be not inherently biodegradable (Currenta, 2010b).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

When testing the inherent biodegradability of the test item, programming of the automated BOD-meter (OxiTop bottles) ended by mistake one day earlier than foreseen in the study plan. The test duration is within the limits given in the guideline (14 to 28 days) and, as only 11 % biodegradation were observed, has no influence on the overall study results. There is some indication of biodegradation, but clearly below the pass level for the test item of 70 %.
