Description of key information

The short term toxicity of dipotassium heptafluorotantalate was determined in freshwater algae.
According to the key study (Caspers, 2000) performed to GLP and in accordance with standardised guideline EU Method C.3, the test material was shown to have no toxic effects on biomass or growth rate in freshwater algae.

The key study (Caspers, 2000) is a GLP compliant study performed in accordance to the standardised guideline EU Method C.3, the equivalent of OECD 201. The study was performed to a good standard in line with sound scientific principles and was assigned a reliability score of 2, using the principles set out in Klimisch (1977). The robust study exposed S. subspicatus to nominal concentrations of the test material: 1.6, 3.1, 6.3, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mg/l. Under the conditions of the test no significant changes were observed in algal growth (index b) or the growth rate (index r). The NOEC, EbC0 and ErC0 were all determined to be ≥100 mg/l.
