Description of key information

The boiling point of FC-40 is 168.3 °C at 760 mm Hg.
The boiling point of FC-43 is 183.6 °C at 760 mm Hg.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The boiling point of FC-40 was evaluated in two studies. The key study was conducted in accordance with ASTM E1719-97 and ASTM D1120-94 but has deviations from OECD TG 103 and is not GLP compliant. Therefore this study is classified as reliable with restrictions. In another study, boiling point was determined to be 161.6 °C at 760 mm Hg which supports the key study results. The supporting study also follows ASTM E1719-97 and ASTM D1120-94, but the key study is the preferred value due to how recently the studies were performed.

The boiling point of FC-43 was evaluated in two studies. The key study study was conducted in accordance with ASTM E1719-97 and ASTM D1120-94 but has deviations from OECD TG 103 and is not GLP compliant. Therefore this study is classified as reliable with restrictions. In another study, boiling point was determined to be 177.9 °C at 760 mm Hg which supports the key study results. In the supporting study, ASTM D1120-65 was cited but has deviations from OECD TG 103 and is not GLP compliant. The key study is the preferred value since the result of the supporting study is the average of the boiling point range determined from 29 measured boiling points obtained on different lots over the course of two years.
