Description of key information

Water solubility of FC-43 was < 0.0561 ug/L at approximately 23˚C (OPPTS 830.7840).
Water solubility of FC-40 was < 0.0508 ug/L at approximately 23˚C (OPPTS 830.7840).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The water solubilities of FC-43 and FC-40 were measured according to OPPTS 830.7840 “Water Solubility: Column Elution Method; Shake Flask Method” and were conducted under GLP. Triplicate FC-43 samples were incubated for 1, 2, 3, and 4 days at approximately 30 °C, while triplicate FC-40 samples were incubated for 1, 2, and 5 days at approximately 30 °C. Each sample was analyzed in duplicate using a purge and trap gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The measured water solubilities for FC-43 were less than the Lower Limit of Quantitation (LLOQ) of 0.0561 ug/L at approximately 23˚C. The measured water solubilities for FC-40 were less than the Lower Limit of Quantitation (LLOQ) of 0.0508 ug/L at approximately 23˚C.

A previous study conducted in 1984 using Total Organic Carbon method reported the water solubility of FC-43 of <2 mg/L at temperature between 23 and 24 °C. It is not known if the sample had reached saturation and equilibration. However, this study supported the low water solubility of FC-43.
