Data on biodegradation (screening tests) of several Guerbet alcohols with different carbon chain lengths show a trend of a decreasing biodegradation rates with increasing chain length likely related to the decreasing bioavailability. Thus, biodegradation properties can be cross-read to the category members with data gaps for this endpoint.
It can be concluded that guerbet alcohols with carbon chain lengths of C12 -C20 are readily biodegradable:
2 -butyloctan-1 -ol
Alcohols C12 -16, branched
2 -hexyldecan-1 -ol
Alcohols C16 -20, branched
2 -octyldodecan-1 -ol
Guerbet alcohols with carbon chain lengths of C24 -C32 are not readily biodegradable but moderately biodegradable:
2 -decyltetradecanol
2 -Dodecylhexadecan-1 -ol
2 -Tetradecyloctadecan-1 -ol
