Sublethal observations / clinical signs:

For the treated groups with nominal PBO concentrations of 1.3, 2.2, 3.6, 6.0 and 10.0 ppm the mean measured concentrations of radioactivity were 0.92, 1.84, 2.97, 5.24 and 6.62 ppm, respectively. In the solvent control group all animals appeared healthy and normal throughout the test. Signs of abnormal behaviour among fish exposed to PBO at 1.84 ppm were observed by 72 hours. At concentrations greater than or equal to 2.97 ppm effects were noted within approximately two hours of test initiation. By the end of the test all of the fish at concentrations greater than 2.97 ppm were dead or exhibited signs of abnormal behaviour.No fish died at PBO concentration levels of 0.92, 1.84 and 2.97 ppm. At the PBO concentration level of 5.24 ppm the percent mortalities by 48, 72 and 96 hours of exposure were 20, 80 and 100 %. At the highest exposure level of 6.62 ppm the percent mortalities were 25, 90 and 100 % after 24, 48 and 72 hours of exposure.

Conclusions:
The results of this study demonstrated that the 96 h no mortality concentration of PBO for sheepshead minnows was 2.97 ppm. The 96 h LC50 of PBO was 3.94 ppm (3.94 mg/L).
