Description of key information

With regard to freshwater aquatic plants an OECD-guideline study with duckweed Lemna minor generated a 7d-EC10 of 241.5 mg Mo/L. In addition, a chronic study with the marine macroalga Ceramium tenuicorne showed that the 7d-EC10 for molybdenum was 274 mg Mo/L for this marine aquatic plant.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater plants:
241.5 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for marine water plants:
274 mg/L

Additional information

Freshwater compartment

For the higher plant Lemna minor (duckweed) a chronic no-effect level of 241.5 mg Mo/L is taken forward for the determination of a PNEC for the aquatic freshwater compartment, using the statistical extrapolation method.

Marine compartment

A chronic test with the marine macroalga Ceramium tenuicorne resulted in a 7d-NOEC and 7D-EC10 of 641 mg Mo/L and 274 mg Mo/L, respectively. the evaluated endpoint was length-based growth rate. The value of 274 mg Mo/L is taken forward for the determination of PNEC for the marine aquatic compartment, using the statistical extrapolation method.
