Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Parent compound: moderately/partly biodegradable
Hydrolysis product 4-tert-butycyclohexanol: readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The biodegradability of 4 -tert-butylcyclohexyl chloroformate was tested in a CO2-evolution test according to OECD 301B. The biodegradation reached 50 -60 % after 28 d. Therefore the substance is not readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria, but considered to be moderately/partly biodegradable (BASF AG, 2001).

The hydrolysis product is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria. This was determined in an EC guideline study (84/449/EEC C.3). The biodegradability reached 90 % after 19 d. The 10 -d window was met (US EPA HPV Dossier, 2006).
