Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Parent compound: A respiration inhibition test was performed with a hydrolsate of the test substance

following OECD 209 under GLP conditions. The 3 -h EC50 was ca. 400 mg/L (BASF AG, 2001).

The test solutions were stirred for 22 ± 2 hours and the pH was adjusted  to 7.5 ± 0.5 afterwards.

Due to the expected hydrolysis of the test item,  the test results may also cover effects from the hydrolysis products.

The EC20 in the activated sludge respiration inhibition test was >100  mg/l. Therefore, disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are not to be expected  if the test substance is correctly introduced into adapted wastewater treatment plants at low concentrations.
