Description of key information

octanal-water partition coefficient of K3EDTA: at 25°C and pH 4.5

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
-4.3
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

For the related substance disodium dihydrogen ethylenediaminetetraacetate a octanol-water partition coefficient of -4 .3 at 25°C, pH 4.5 was determined in a study which was conducted according to scientifically acceptable methods. A partition coefficient value of -11.7 at 25°C without pH specified for disodium dihydrogen ethylenediaminetetraacetate was sourced from a peer-reviewed database, using an appropriate calculation method.

Due to the similar dissociation of the potassium salt compared to the sodium salt only small amounts of the

ethylenediaminetetraacetate anion

are dissolved in the octanol, the concentration of which is strongly pH dependent. A dependence on the cation is not expected therefore read-across for this endpoint is scientifically justified.
