Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

Description of key information

The toxicity of the test item to the unicellular freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined according to the principles of OECD 201 in year 2012. In this study was found to inhibit the growth of the freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus after 72 hours with the following effect values (nominal test item concentrations). The NOEC-values for inhibition of growth rate and yield after 72 hours were 
3.16 µg/L and 1.00 µg/L, respectively. The LOEC-values for inhibition of growth rate and yield after 72 hours were 10.0 µg/L and 3.16 µg/L, respectively. The EC50-value for inhibition of growth rate (ErC50) with 95 % confidence intervals after 72 hours was 19.7 (12.3 - > 31.6) µg/L. The EC50-value for inhibition of yield (EyC50) with 95 % confidence intervals after 72 hours was 4.24 (3.48 – 6.30) µg/L.
All effect levels are given based on nominal concentrations of the test item.
