Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

KDDC can be considered as readily biodegradable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No information about the biodegradation of KDDC in water is available and therefore, conclusions on this endpoint had to be drawn based on data from an analogue substance. The biodegradation of SDDC (CAS No. 128-04-1) was investigated by Van der Kerken (2003). This test was conducted according to OECD Guideline No. 301 D, Ready Biodegradability: Closed Bottle Test, under GLP conditions. The test material was incubated for 28 days in activated sludge (predominantly domestic) at 20 ± 2°C and biodegradation was followed asthe percentage BOD (biological oxygen demand) relative to the theoretical oxygen demand (ThOD). However, due to the fact that the test substance may have selectively inhibited the nitrifying microorganisms activity, the expression of the results of the study as % of ThODNH3 was considered appropriate. Biodegradation values reached 67.7% and 67.3% after 28 days (1 and 2 mg/L concentrations, respectively) and therefore, the substance is readily biodegradable.
