First-aid measures

General information

In the case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show the label where possible). Ensure that medical personnel are aware of the material(s) involved, and take precautions to protect themselves. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

Description of first aid measures

Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. If not breathing, give artificial respiration or give oxygen by trained personnel. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. Do not use mouth-to-mouth method if victim inhaled the substance. Induce

artificial respiration with the aid of a pocket mask equipped with a one-way valve or other proper respiratory medical device. Call a physician or Poison Control Centre immediately.

Skin contact: Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Call a physician or Poison Control Centre immediately. For minor skin contact, avoid spreading material on unaffected skin. Wash clothing separately before reuse. In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at

least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.

Eye contact:  Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do.  Continue rinsing. Call a physician or Poison Control Centre immediately.

Ingestion: Call a physician or Poison Control Centre immediately. Get medical attention immediately. Do not induce vomiting. If material is ingested, immediately contact a physician or poison control centre. Do not use mouth-to-mouth method if victim ingested the substance. Have victim rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Drink plenty of water. Never give anything by mouth to a victim who is unconscious or is having convulsions. If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs naturally, have victim lean forward to reduce risk of aspiration. Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed.

Skin: Contact with substance may cause severe burns to skin. Corrosive. Symptoms may include redness, oedema, drying, defatting and cracking of the skin.

Eyes: Corrosive to the eyes and may cause severe damage including blindness. Symptoms may include discomfort or pain, excess blinking and tear production, with marked redness and swelling of the conjunctiva.

Inhalation: Prolonged inhalation may be harmful. High vapour concentrations are irritating to the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. Inhalation of vapors/fumes may cause respiratory irritation with throat discomfort, coughing or difficulty breathing.

Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed. May cause delayed lung damage. Ingestion may produce burns to the lips, oral cavity, upper airway, esophagus and possibly the digestive tract. Do not ingest. This product may produce corrosive damage to the gastrointestinal tract if it is swallowed.

Indication of any immediate  medical attention and special treatment needed. In case of shortness of breath, give oxygen. Keep victim warm. Keep victim under observation. Treat symptomatically. Symptoms may be delayed.

Fire-fighting measures

General fire hazards

Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air. Vapours are heavier than air and may travel along the ground to some distant source of ignition and flash back.

Extinguishing media:

Suitable extinguishing media: Water Fog. Dry chemical, CO2, water spray or alcohol resistant foam.

Unsuitable extinguishing media: Water. Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire.

Special hazards arising  from the substance or mixture: Hazardous combustion products. May include oxides of carbon and nitrogen.

Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazard:  Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Combustible liquid. Containers may explode when heated. Runoff to sewer may cause fire or explosion hazard.

Advice for firefighters: Special protective equipment for firefighters. Firefighters must use standard protective equipment including flame retardant coat, helmet with face shield, gloves, rubber boots, and in enclosed spaces, SCBA. Structural firefighters protective clothing will only provide limited protection.

Special firefighting procedures:

In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes. Move containers from fire area if you can do so without risk. Water runoff can cause environmental damage. Wear full protective clothing, including helmet, self-contained positive pressure or pressure demand breathing apparatus, and face

mask. If tank, rail car or tank truck is involved in a fire, ISOLATE for 800 meters (1/2 mile) in all directions; also consider initial evacuation for 800 meters (1/2 mile) in all directions. ALWAYS stay away from tanks engulfed in flame. Fight fire from maximum distance or use unmanned hose holders or monitor nozzles. Withdraw immediately in case of rising sound from venting safety devices or any discolouration of tanks due to fire. In the event of fire, cool tanks with water spray. Move containers from fire area if you can do it without risk. Some of these materials, if spilled, may evaporate leaving a flammable residue.

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency  procedures

For non-emergency personnel: Avoid contact with spilled material.

For emergency  responders

Immediately evacuate personnel to safe areas. Do not touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing. Ventilate closed spaces before entering them. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Stay upwind. Fully encapsulating, vapour protective clothing

should be worn for spills and leaks with no fire. Ventilate closed spaces before entering.

Environmental precautions: Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution. Do not contaminate water.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning  up.  Eliminate all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks, or flames in immediate area). ELIMINATE all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flames in immediate area). Keep combustibles (wood, paper, oil etc) away from spilled material. Should not be released into the environment. Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas. Dike far ahead of liquid spill for later disposal. The product is immiscible with water and will spread on the water surface.

Large Spills: Stop leak if you can do so without risk. Move the cylinder to a safe and open area if the leak is irreparable. Dike the spilled material, where this is possible. Cover with plastic sheet to prevent spreading. Absorb spillage with non-combustible, absorbent material. Clean contaminated surface thoroughly.

Never return spills to original containers for re-use. Following product recovery, flush area with water. Prevent product from entering drains. Clean up in accordance with all applicable regulations.

Small Spills: Clean surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air. DO NOT handle, store or open near an open flame, sources of heat or sources of ignition. Protect material from direct sunlight. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. All equipment used when handling the product must be grounded.

Use non-sparking tools and explosion-proof equipment. Do not breathe mist or vapour. Do not get this material in contact with eyes. Do not get this material in contact with skin. Do not taste or swallow. Do not get this material on clothing. Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Avoid prolonged exposure. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Avoid release to the environment. Use only with adequate ventilation. Wear personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Do not empty into drains. Do not handle or store near an open flame, heat or other sources of ignition. Follow all SDS/label precautions even after container is emptied because they may retain product residues.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Store locked up. Store in cool place. Refrigeration recommeded. Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep out of the reach of children. The pressure in sealed containers can increase under the influence of heat. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep the container dry. Keep in an area equipped with sprinklers. Keep this material away from food, drink and animal feed. Store in a closed container away from incompatible materials.

Explosion-proof general and local exhaust ventilation.

This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each manufacturing site. Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Processor/User of the Registrant´s intermediate.

General information

Use protective clothing that is chemically resistant for prolonged or frequently repeated contact.

Structural firefighters protective clothing provides limited protection in fire situations ONLY; it is not effective in spill situations.

Eye/face protection

Wear eye/face protection. Wear chemical goggles and face shield.

Skin protection

- Hand protection: Wear protective gloves. Protective gloves complying with EN 374. Solvent-resistant gloves

(butylrubber). Permeation rate: > 30 min. Thickness: > 0.7 mm.

Unsuitable materials: Latex gloves, nitrile rubber, leather gloves, PVC or other plastic material gloves.

- Other

Where contact is likely, wear chemical-resistant gloves, a chemical suit, rubber boots, and  chemical safety goggles plus a face shield. It may provide little or no thermal protection.

Respiratory protection: Wear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

Hygiene measures

When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Do not get in eyes. Do not get this material in contact with skin. Do not get this material on clothing. Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Do not allow  this material to drain into sewers/water supplies. Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local/regional/national/international regulations.
