Additional information

skin irritation:

After application of the test substance to the skin of rabbits, the mean value (24, 48 and 72 h) of the scores of either erythema or edema formation was calculated over all animals tested or for each animal individually.

The mean value for erythema formation was 2.67 (individual animals 2.33, 2.67, and 3.0) over all animals tested.

The mean value for edema formation was 1.33 over all animals tested.

The substance is therefore classified as irritating to skin according to EU criteria and as irritating cat. 2 according to GHS criteria. [BASF, 1983]

eye irritation:

The mean scores were 0 for corneal opacity, 0 for iris lesions, 1.78 for redness of the conjunctivae (1.67 for 2/3 and 2 for 1/3 animals), and 0.33 for edema formation (0.33 for the individual rabbits). Thus, the test substance is considered to be non irritating to the eye according to EU and GHS criteria. [BASF, 1983]

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the results obtained in skin irritation studie with rabbits the test substance has to be classified with respect to skin irritation, Xi, R38 according to Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) and cat. 2, H315 according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP, GHS).

Based on the results obtained in an eye irritation study with rabbits the test substance has not to be classified with respect to eye irritation according to Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) and to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP, GHS).
