In order to study a possible skin sensitisation potential of Myristyl chloroformate, three groups each of five female mice were treated daily with the test item at concentrations of 1, 2.5, and 5% (w/v) in acetone:olive oil (4+1 v/v) by topical application to the dorsum of each ear once daily for three consecutive days. All treated animals survived the scheduled study period and no signs of systemic toxicity or local skin irritation were observed.
In this study Stimulation Indices (S.I.) of 0.80, 1.91, and 8.56 were determined with the test item at concentrations of 1, 2.5, and 5 % (w/v) in acetone:olive oil (4+1 v/v), respectively. A clear dose response was observed. The EC3 value calculated was 2.9% (w/v). [BASF, 2011]

The test item Myristyl chloroformate was found to be a skin sensitiser in the Local Lymph Node Assay conducted according to OECD TG 429.
Justification for classification or non-classification
Tetradecyl chloroformate is considered to be skin sensitising (EU: R43; GHS: cat.1B H317) according to the criteria of EU Directive 67/548/EEC and EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
