- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The substance piperazine pyrophosphate is the salt of piperazine and pyrophosphate. With regard to the long-term fate of this substance in the environment, it is to be expected that (low) dissociation of the salt to free piperazine and free pyrophosphate finally will lead to environmental exposure to piperazine. Pyrophosphate and its hydrolysis product monophosphate, respectively, will quickly be eliminated/assimilated by microorganisms and plants/algae in natural environments.
Biodegradation of piperazine was already assessed in the frame the Risk Assessment performed on piperazine in accordance with Council Regulation (EEC) 793/931.
Based on the available information on the biotic degradation of piperazine it is concluded that simulation testing on ultimate degradation of piperazine pyrophosphate in surface water, sediment or soil and identification of degradation products during (one of) these studies will not provide additional information on the environmental fate of piperazine pyrophosphate. Therefore, no further tests for biotic degradation are proposed.
