Description of key information

Testing is waived on the basis that MPD is not actute toxic to fish, is biodegradable and is not likely to bioaccumulate.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Testing for long-term toxicity to fish is not considered necessary because the short-term toxicity of MPD to fish is low and the weight of evidence presented in the CSR chapter 7 indicates testing is not necessary. In a OECD Guideline 204 test (Fish, Prolonged Toxicity Test: 14 -day study) a LC50 >100 mg/L was determined. Furthermore the substance is readily biodegradable and the low log Kow = 0.03 and the predicted BCF (aquatic species) = 3.16 L/kg ww, indicate that bioaccumulation is unlikely.
