Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
other:
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid

Description of key information

Based on the chemical structure and based on day-to-day handling of the substance, it is concluded that the test substance is not flammable in contact with water and does not show pyrophoric properties. Furthermore, it is not considered to be a flammable liquid (determined by the flash point, see 4.11) nor self-heating as the latter only applies to solids.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The test item does not fall into any of the broad categories that may be flammable in contact with water. Examples of these categories are alkali metals, alkyl aluminium derivatives, alkyl metals, metal hydrides, metal phosphides and certain metal powders. In addition, the test item did not show any evidence of being flammable in contact with water, during handling and use. The theoretical assessment together with experience in handling and use is suitable justification for non-testing.

The test item does not fall into any of the broad categories that may be pyrophoric. Examples of these categories are alkyl aluminium derivatives, alkyl boranes, alkyl haloboranes, metal hydrides and complex acetylides. In addition, the test item did not show any evidence of pyrophoric properties during handling and use. The theoretical assessment together with experience in handling and use is suitable justification for non-testing.

To evaluate if the substance can be considered a flammable liquid, the flash point (see section 4.11) is used. Based on the result being 157 +/-2°C, the substance is not considered to be a flammable liquid.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the chemical structure and based on day-to-day handling of the substance, it is concluded that the test substance is not flammable in contact with water and does not show pyrophoric properties. Based on the flash-point determination, the test substance is not considered to be a flammable liquid.
