Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
During the preliminary test, the test substance appeared to be hydrolytically unstable in water; the concentration of the cis-isomer
decreased with approximately 50% and the concentration of the transisomer decreased with approximately 80% during 19 hours at room
temperature. According to the OECO and EEC guidelines, the test is not applicable to unstable substances. Therefore, the water solubility
testing as described in the protocol was not performed. An alternative test was performed to determine whether the test substance is miscible
with water in 11 different ratios " test substance/water (v/v) ", ranging between 100 and 0.01, respectively.

Any other information on results incl. tables

During the alternative test , the mixtures with the ratios (v/v) "l00", "50", "0.l ", "0.02" and "0.01" were clear colourless liquids in which no phase separation could be observed. At the beginning of the test , the mixture with the ratio (v/v) "0.2" showed phase-separation. However, after being shaken vigorously for the second time, the mixture with the ratio (v/v) ''0.2" became one clear, colourless phase. The mixtures with the ratios (v/v) "10", "5", "2", "1" and "0.5" showed phase separation at all observation periods of the test. Both phases were clear and colourless.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Interpretation of results (migrated information): miscible
In conclusion, C4-DIACETAL was determined to miscible with water at the ratios "test substance/Milli-Q water (v/v)" 250 and < 0.2 at ambient
temperature (approximately 18°C).
Executive summary:

During a preliminary test, C4 -DIACETAL appeared to be hydrolytically unstable in water. After incubation for 19 hours at room temperature, the concentration o f the cis-isomer decreased approximately 50% and the concentration of the trans-isomer decreased approximately 80%. Therefore, an alternative test was performed to determine visually the miscibility of the test substance with water, at different ratios "test substancelwater (v/v)" ranging between 100 and 0.01. During the alternative test, C4 -DIACETAL was determined to miscible with water at the ratios "test substance/water (v/v) 250 and 0.2.
