Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Additional information

TrifluoroAcetic Acid Ethyl ester (TFAE) is a moderately dense and very fluid liquid, considered as highly volatile.

As it hydrolyses rapidly into the corresponding acid TFA, the degradation product is therefore is the actual and relevant species present in the environment. TFA is fully miscible in water, where it will exist under its ionised form (acetate). The substance has low potential for bioaccumulation, and exhibits no surface-active properties.

With regard to physical hazards, TFAE is classified as highly flammable, but no explosive or oxidising properties are anticipated.
