There are reliable data for category member substances which are considered suitable for read-across based on a category approach.This read-across is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 and justified in detail in the overall summary (IUCLID Chapter 6.1) and within the category justification attached in IUCLID Section 13. In this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substance was used for the assessment. Nevertheless, as it can be seen in the data matrix of the category justification in IUCLID Section 13 and the overall summary (IUCLID Chapter 6.1), all reliable data in the category support the hazard assessment of each category member by showing a consistent pattern of results.
One study investigating the long-term toxicity of D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, butyl glycoside to soil macroorganisms is available (IBACON, 2012). In this key study performed according to OECD 222 and GLP, Eisenia fetida was exposed to nominal concentrations of 0, 125, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 mg/kg soil dw of a 99.5% pure solid. Analytical verification of the test substance concentration was not performed. No significant mortalities were observed in any of the treatments. Also body weight changes, behavioural abnormalities and feeding activity were comparable to the control. Reproduction rates were significantly different compared to the control at the two lowest concentrations of 125 and 250 mg/kg soil, however this significance is not considered to be treatment-related as there was no dose relation and no statistically significant reduction of reproduction at the three higher concentrations of 200, 750 and 1000 mg/kg soil. As a conclusion, a NOEC of >= 1000 mg/kg dw soil is reported (i.e. the highest concentration tested). Another supporting study is available investigating the effects of the substance to soil macroorganisms. The test was performed according to OECD guideline 207 with the annelid Eisenia sp. (Steber et al., 1995). No effects of the category member D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, C10-16-alkyl glycosides to soil macroorganisms were observed at the highest test concentration of 654 mg/kg at test termination.Information on Registered Substances comes from registration dossiers which have been assigned a registration number.
