Endpoint:
flammable liquids: obsolete as covered by section 'Flash point'
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.13 (Pyrophoric Properties of Solids and Liquids)
GLP compliance:
yes
Remarks on result:
no charring
Remarks on result:
no ignition within 5 minutes
Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test substance has no pyrophoric properties in the sense of this test procedure.
Executive summary:

The test was performed as stipulated in Test Procedure A 13 for determination of flammability in solid and liquid materials.

A 5 cm3 sample of the test substance was added to a porcelain dish filled with silica as specified in the test procedure. No ignition was observed throughout the five minute observation period. The test was repeated five times, each with a negative result. Further, about 0.5 cm3 sample was applied dropwise to a dry filter paper at room temperature. In five test runs, no ignition or charring occured within five minutes upon the addition of the sample to the filter paper.

The test substance has no pyrophoric properties in the sense of this test procedure.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.12 (Flammability (Contact with Water))
GLP compliance:
yes
Remarks on result:
no reaction with water observed

Does not liberate gases in hazardous amounts upon contact with water.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test substance does not liberate gases in hazardous amounts upon contact with water.
Executive summary:

The test was performed as stipulated in Test Procedure A 12 for Determination of flammability in case of contact with water or moist air

Stage 1

The test substance was added to a dish containing distilled water.

No formation of reaction gases was observed. Attempts to ignite the gas phase above the dish with the flame of a burner produced negative results.

Stage 2

The test substance was introduced to a filter paper floating on the surface of the destilled water contained in a dish.

No formation of reaction gases was observed. Attempts to ignite the gas phase above the filter paper produced negative results.

Stage 3

A few drops of water were added to a sample of the test substance. No formation of reaction gases was observed. Ignition attempts of the gas phase produced negative results.

Stage 4

Water (ca. 20 mL) was added from a dropping funnel to the quantities of test substance specified below. One test run was performed.

The following total quantities of liberated gas were determined by using a miniature gasometer.

The test substance does not liberate gases in hazardous amounts upon contact with water.

Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid

Description of key information

- The flammability of the test substance is covered by flash point.

- The test was performed as stipulated in Test Procedure A 13 for determination of flammability in solid and liquid materials. The test substance has no pyrophoric properties in the sense of this test procedure.

- The test was performed as stipulated in Test Procedure A 12 for Determination of flammability in case of contact with water or moist air. The test substance does not liberate gases in hazardous amounts upon contact with water.

- The surface of liquids is not large enough for reaction with air and the test method is not applicable to liquids. Thus, the test substance is not classified as self-heating.
