Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to column 2 of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 Annex IX long-term toxicity testing shall only be proposed if the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects on aquatic organisms. Docosanamide (CAS No. 3061-75-4) does not need further investigations due to the following reasons. As the test substance is poorly soluble in water (< 0.05 mg/L) it is expected that sediments are, if at all, only exposed to very small amounts of the test substance. In case the substance is present in wastewater, it will be eliminated in common wastewater treatment plants to a large amount due to the readily biodegradability of docosanamide (CAS No. 3061-75-4) . Furthermore, no short and long-term effects were observed to aquatic algae, daphnia and fish in the range of water solubility. Since only low amounts of the test substance can be expected in the aquatic environment and no adverse effects of the substance are expected no long-term tests on sediment organisms should be performed.
