Data on biodegradation are available in the WHO Concise International Chemical Assessment Document 20 (CICAD) on Mononitrophenols (2000), the BUA report 75 for 2- and 4-nitrophenol (1992; update supplementary report 2003) and the ECB IUCLID (2000) for 2-nitrophenol. 2-Nitrophenol was found to be inherently biodegradable under aerocic conditions. However, 2-nitrophenol is not readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.
