BNMA has a log Kow of 3.1, a low potential for adsorption to soil (based on an estimated log Koc of 2.57) and is readily biodegradable. Results from a Mackay level III distribution modelling indicate that if BNMA is released into air, it mainly remains in the air. A smaller amount partitions to water and soil. If the substance is released into water, it mainly remains in water.

The PNECs for soil have been derived from the PNEC for freshwater using the equilibrium partitioning method.

Using this PNECsoil value, the risk characterisation showed that the PEC/PNECsoil ratio is <1, indicating that the testing of effects on terrestrial organisms is not necessary. The available data are sufficient for risk characterisation.
