Data are available on the toxicity of several category members to microorganisms from a variety of tests. The studies all indicate that members of this category are not expected to be inhibitory to microorganisms.

Lebertz (1997) tested the toxicity of dec-1-ene dimer hydrogenated (CAS 68649-11-6) to Pseudomonas putida in a DIN 38412 test. Lebertz reports that the EC10 (cell number) was not reached at the highest nominal test concentration of 10000 mg/L.

Mead (2000) followed OECD 209 to test the toxicity of 1-dodecene trimer, hydrogenated (CAS 151006-62-1) to microorganisms. This substance is not being registered as a member of this category but does fall within the category domain. It is therefore considered fully appropriate for read across. In this standard test the 30 minute and 3 hour NOEC was reported as 1000 mg/L.

Data are available from four standard ready biodegradability screening studies (Handley and Mead, 1995 and 1995a; Douglas 1993a and 1993b) on four category members which included toxicity controls, in which the effect of adding the test substance to the biodegradation rate of a readily biodegradable reference substance was investigated. Test concentrations of 2 mg/L (OECD 301D) and 23 mg/L (OECD 301B) were used. In all four studies no inhibition was observed.

The data available clearly indicate that the members of this category are not expected to be inhibitory to microorganisms.
