The acute toxicity of Chloracetamid - which contains 99% active ingredient - to golden orfe, Leuciscus idus melanotus was determined in a static test. The test was performed according to DIN 38412 Teil 15 which is similar to the later established OECD 203. Deviations to the later established OECD guideline were, e.g., the size of the fish and the resulting biomass loading of > 1g/L and the mortality of 30% of the control fish from hour 72 to hour 96 of the test. The test is regarded as Klimisch 2 study since the deviations are not expected to have a major impact on the outcome of the study. The high control mortality from hour 72 to hour 96 cannot be explained based on the provided information. However, since the lower concentrations show a good dose-response relationship with only minor mortality, the relevance of the control mortality was considered to be less important. Hence, even if the validity criteria of modern test guidelines were not fulfilled, the results are considered to be acceptable for the assessment of the effects of the test material on fish.
The test was performed with a control and nominal 12.1, 14.7, 17.8, 21.5, 26.1, 31.6 and 38.3 mg test item/L. Since no dose verification analysis was performed, the concentrations were reported as nominal concentrations. During the study, the temperature of the test solutions was stable within 20 +/- 1°C. After 96 hours of exposure, 3, 1, 0, 3,6, 10, 10 and 10 out of 10 fish had died in the control, 512.1, 14.7, 17.8, 21.5, 26.1, 31.6 and 38.3 mg test item /L treatment groups. The 96 h LC50 was determined to be 19.8 mg test item/L. The concentrations were based on nominal concentrations.
The results of this study are considered to be relevant for the risk assessment.
