Description of key information

Classification based on comparison of the enthalpy of decomposition with that of the reference compound 1,3-dinitrobenzene according to A. 14.
General Physical Chemistry, Schering AG, Berlin. Study report NC54EY10 (APC 80/99), dated 1999-06-27.
The test according to the EU-Guideline A.14 was not performed , since the enthalpy of decomposition is less then that of the reference compound 1,3-dinitrobenzene.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The enthalpy of decomposition by differential thermal analysis (DTA) of Hydroxydrospirenone as observed during the experimental work to report No. NC46EY10 (Melting point by DTA according to EU Method A.1) was (-0.4 kJ/g).

Therefore, the test ‘explosive properties’ according to the EU-Guideline A.14 was not performed , since the enthalpy of decomposition

of Hydroxydrospirenone is less then that of the reference compound 1,3-dinitrobenzene according to A.14, which is - 4.6 kJ/g.

.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The enthalpy of decomposition of Hydroxydrospirenone is less then that of the reference compound according to A. 14.

Therefore, Hydroxydrospirenone is classified as non explosive.
