Endpoint:
surface tension
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The surface tension study was not performed because the substance is hydrolytically unstable in water (half-life time < 4 minutes). In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, testing was omitted because it is technically not possible to conduct the study.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
data waiving: supporting information
Endpoint:
surface tension
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Remarks:
Conducted with the hydrolysis product MPKO
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 115 (Surface Tension of Aqueous Solutions)
Deviations:
not specified
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension)
Deviations:
not specified
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
OECD harmonised ring method
Key result
Surface tension:
ca. 69.5 mN/m
Temp.:
20.2 °C
Conc.:
1 g/L
Conclusions:
The surface tension of a test solution at a concentration of 1 g/L and at 20.2 °C was 69.5 mN/m and therefore, it was determined to be not surface active.
Executive summary:

The OECD harmonized ring method (OECD Guideline 115 and EU Method A.5) was used for the determination of the surface tension of MPKO. The surface tension of a test solution at a concentration of 1 g/L and at 20.2 °C was 69.5 mN/m. According to this, the test substance is considered not surface active.

Description of key information

The test substance hydrolyses quickly (half-life time < 4 minutes) therefore surface tension of the test substance cannot be determined. The surface tension of MPKO, the hydrolysis product of OS2600, was determined to be 69.5 mN/m at at temperature of 20.2°C and a concentration of 1 g/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
69.5
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1 000

Additional information

Data waiving (study technically not feasible): The surface tension study was not performed because the substance is hydrolytically unstable in water (half-life time < 4 minutes). In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, testing was omitted because it is technically not possible to conduct the study.

Supporting study: The OECD harmonized ring method (OECD Guideline 115 and EU Method A.5) was used for the determination of the surface tension of the analogue substance MPKO. The surface tension at a concentration of 1 g/L and at 20.2 °C was 69.5 mN/m. According to this, the test substance is considered not surface active.
