Description of key information

The 32d-day NOEC on fish (Gobiocypris rarus) was superior or equal to 10.1 mg/L (measured concentration); implying that 2-methylglutaric acid is not harmful to fish in the long-term.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

An experimental study, scored as Klimisch 1, was selected as a key study. It was performed in compliance with GLP according to OECD 210 test guideline. Under REACH, such study is not required because 2-methylglutaric acid is rapidly degradable, not potentially bioaccumulative and does not present any acute toxicity to the three trophic levels (fish, aquatic invertebrates, algae). The study was nevertheless provided here because it was performed for the purpose of another regulation, a Chinese notification, which required the performance of this test in a Chinese laboratory.
