Results and discussion

Details on results:
Methacrylonitrile caused significant decrease in the activities of mitochondrial citric acid cycle enzymes and inner mitochondrial enzymes. The concentrations of cytochromes and the energy linked properties of lung mitochondria also declined. The respiratory control ratio was lowered in methacrylonitrile treated rats lung mitochondria, leading to a decrease in net energy product. In the microsomes, administration of methacrylonitrile resulted in significant increases in cytochrome-P450 and cytochrome b5 contents. The lung mitochondrial phospholipids and cholesterol and microsomal phospholipids were significantly lower.
