Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced to biological treatment plants in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The effect of the test substance on the respiration of activated sewage sludge was studied according to OECD 209 and under GLP (RCC Ltd. 2005). Based on the results of a preliminary non GLP range-finding test, activated sewage sludge was exposed to the test substance at the limit concentration of 100 mg/L for a period of 3 hours with the addition of a synthetic sewage as a respiratory substrate. 3,5-dichlorophenol was tested as positive control at concentrations of 5, 16 and 50 mg/L and resulted in a 3-hour EC50 value of 17 mg/L. However, no effects of the test substance could be observed after three hours contact time. Thus, the 3-hour NOEC of the test substance to activated sludge microorganisms is >= 100 mg/L. The 3-hour EC20, EC50 and EC80 were clearly higher than 100 mg/L.
